With the summer
getting hotter each passing year, it is very essential to take all
possible steps to keep metal buildings cool. Though all
people search frantically for a cool place to stay, some of them have
to work in extremely hot places – the hottest ones being metal
buildings - in severe summers. If adequate measures are not taken to
keep metal buildings cool, they can become unbearably hot. The mere
thought of working in such a building on a day with nearly 100-degree
temperature is a dreadful thought – more so, because the temperature
inside that building will be even higher than the outside temperature!
1. It is a very good idea to use asphalt shingles – the lighter
their color, the more effective they will be in reflecting the sunlight
in place of absorbing it. The universally favored color is white more
often than not – being the lightest color, it best reflects
sunlight.
2. Another great way to keep metal buildings cool is to use air
conditioners – and,
to avoid over-working them, they can be used along with a cool roof
system. Obviously, it is the size of the building that determines what
kind of air conditioning is required – a big building needs
a central air unit, while a small building may need a window unit.
3. At times, the environment may be such that an air conditioner
is not needed. In such cases, if the metal building has windows,
window
fans can be installed for pulling in cool air and sucking out
the hot air.
4. Quite an environmentally friendly option is a cool storage
system. Such a system makes ice at night, and through radiators
placed all
over the building, uses that ice to cool the building in
the daytime.
5. To reflect sunlight, roof tiles placed on the roof – particularly
of white color - are also a great measure!
6. In addition to air conditioners or window fan units
and cool roofing to cool things off, some extra measures
can
also be taken.
For example,
in order to try and keep heat out and cool air in, insulation
and sheet rock can be placed within the building.
7. A cool roofing system can be used to keep the hot
air to a minimum. Alongside, fans can also be used
fans in
the windows.
An insulated
ceiling can keep the hot air where it belongs. This
way, all the heat that enters through the roof can be trapped.
8. A specific color coating can be done on the buildings
that reflect sunlight – in other words, a ‘cooling coat’ can be
done on the exterior. This kind of a ‘coat’ will not
allow much heat to amass in the walls, and is, hence a wonderful
idea! |
